In 1974 representing the Gold house at the Charlestown Secondary School annual sports day, Andy Liburd wrote his name four times within the records books, however, 35 years after, despite the fact that three of those records being erased, he still has one that many fear will never be broken. Still standing after 35 years is the senior males’ 1,500 metre record which Liburd took in 4:22:20 seconds representing Gold house.

A former top banking official of the St Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank has issued an appeal to businesses within St Kitts and Nevis to diversify. Andy Liburd who once headed the bank’s operation in Nevis in an interview with this reporter says that he is “very concerned and worried” about the effects of the global financial crisis on businesses in St Kitts and Nevis especially small and medium size companies while urging them to ensure that they diversify into new markets if they are going to remain viable and operational.

Nevis Multi Line Services Managing Director, Andy Liburd is calling for more linkages between small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger firms as a means of improving the competitiveness of the smaller, more vulnerable enterprises in the federation of St Kitts and Nevis.

 According to Liburd who has been operating his company for some twenty three odd years competitive challenges pose a particular difficulty for small enterprises if they are acting alone to access markets served by larger entrepreneurs as well. "When they benefit from linkages to larger firms in terms of accessing the market, resources or technology globalization can present tremendous opportunities for small enterprises," Liburd stressed while speaking to this reporter.
